Vasilis Kostas is a Greek laouto player, composer and educator, as well as a graduate of Berklee Global Jazz Institute's masters program. He is the Founder/Artist Director of the Epirus Ensemble at the Greek Institute in Boston and a member of Global Messengers. His approach on the mainland lute is based on applying various musical idioms of Greek traditional music, building bridges between his own roots and jazz improvisation, adapting master clarinetist Petroloukas Halkias’s complex lines and musical philosophy. Vasilis received the Artist Fellowship in the Traditional Arts Award, which was given to him by the Mass Cultural Council. He is currently based in Boston, MA, sharing the Greek traditional music and his own musical projects in concert halls and academic institutions worldwide.
