Zacharias Spyridakis was born in Athens in 1971 and started learning Cretan lyra in 1980. In 1983, he studied with lyra master, Kostas Mountakis, and received his degree from the Greek Conservatory of Athens in 1989. In 1993, he helped form the Cretan ensemble, Palaiina Seferia, releasing two successful albums. Since 2016, he has been collaborating and recording with G. Karapatakis & H. Hildenbrand in the Nenemia project. He has performed in Greece and abroad and presented his work and Cretan Music on the radio and television shows. He has also collaborated with various composers. Zaharias has recorded numerous albums and film soundtracks, fusing traditional and contemporary styles. Zacharias has led seminars in Cretan lyra at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop in Crete for over a decade.
