Trained in the Western Classical musical tradition and growing up in Egypt surrounded by a rich Arab musical tradition, Basma Edrees specializes in both Western and Arab styles of violin playing.

As a graduate of The Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music, Basma has served as Associate Concert Master of the Oakland Symphony. She has performed as a soloist in various countries, and alongside many renowned musicians from the Arab world. She has given Arabic Music workshops at UC Berkeley and Stanford University, and currently teaches Arabic music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Basma is especially adept at guiding musicians from a Western Classical background through their initial steps into the world of Arabic music.
