Giorgos Papaioannou was born in Athens and studied music at an early age at Atticus Odeum. He played many genres since the age of 15 but his involvement with traditional music began during his studies in the Department of Sound Engineering at the University of Crete. He has participated in seminars in Turkish and Arabic violin techniques, as well as in Bulgarian and Indian music. He was also a member of the Symphony Orchestra of Heraklion Municipality. Since 2012, he has taught modal music and improvisation at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop among other seminars. Giorgos wrote music together with Nikos Papaioannou for the film, A Tale of the Three Sisters (Kiz Kardesler), which won a lot of awards, including Best Music at the Istanbul Film Festival.
