Peppe Frana was fascinated with rock music from a young age. At the age of 20, he became dazzled by modal music he encountered in the work of Ross Daly. He then studied Turkish oud and other plucked string instruments, traveling to Greece and Turkey, and especially to the Labyrinth Musical Workshop in Crete.

Meeting the Ensemble Micrologus inspired Peppe to dive into European Medieval music and the plectrum lute. He quickly became one of the most appreciated soloists and teachers specializing in Italian trecento repertoire.

Since 2013, he has been studying medieval lute at the Schola Cantorum in Switzerland, under the guidance of Crawford Young. He also holds a degree in philosophy from the Istituto Universitario "L'Orientale" in Naples and is the artistic director of Labyrinth Italia.
