Description
The cello is a relatively recent addition to the modal musical traditions of the East but it is an addition which, like the violin, makes perfect sense. In many ways however, the cello presents greater and more interesting challenges, as it introduces not only a new sound quality, but also a new register which was not previously available. In this course, Damla Aydin will expound on the way in which this uniquely versatile instrument can enrich the compositions of Turkish and older Ottoman musical idioms. Emphasis will be placed on techniques of ornamentation, intervals and the correct interpretation of the compositions.
