Description
In this course, we will explore the long history of composers throughout the Ottoman Empire using time, place and makams. We will play, sing and explore the essence of how they understood the makam cycles. At the same time, we will look at how we can understand this music in our present time. We will focus on the works of Abdülkadir Meragi, Buhurizade, Mustafa Itri Efendi, Ali Ufki, Dilhayat Kalfa, Dede Efendi, Gazi Giray Han, Hafiz Post, Hamparsum Limoncian, Isak Fresco, Lavtaci Andon, III. Selim, Tatyos Efendi, Zekai Dede, and Zaharya Mir Cemil.
