Description
In this course we will discuss the modal characteristics of major gooshes (maqams) of each dastgah in Iranian radif. We will learn commonly performed melodic and rhythmic patterns, and discuss how melodies evolve around the modal structure of those major gooshes. In each dastgah we will listen to highlights of significant performances from older Iranian master musicians, and analyze them comparing to the gooshes we have learnt. I will be playing tar during the course, and will help those who need feedback with improving their tar playing skills. However, musicians playing any instrument capable of performing the microtones are welcome to join. In these workshops, participants are expected to play and record music based on what they have understood of what was taught in each dastgah.
