Description
This course focuses on the short neck saz (bağlama). We will concentrate on technique, including how to hold the plectrum (mizrap), and how different positions produce different sounds. We will assess the use of various hand positions, as well as ergonomics of the entire arm, and analyze commonly used scales and ornaments. We will also overview different sources for saz learning.
This course is for students who are able to hold, tune and produce sound on the saz, eager to learn technique and develop their performing skills within the context of a basic repertoire: “Karadir Kaslarin Ferman Yazdirir,” “Bacacılar Yüksek Yapar Bacayı,” “Çamdan Sakız Akıyor,” “Kerimoğlu Derler Benim Aslıma,” “Belin Başı Tozlu,” “Ötme Bülbül Ötme” “Laloudi tis Monemvasias” (Λαλούδι της Μονομπασιάς), and “Bugün Bize Pir Geldi”
During the course, instructor Cihan Türkoğlu will provide a short video presentation for each lesson aiming to guide your practice. It will be an interactive course, following the level, interest and need of the students, and the instructor is open to hearing students’ interests before and during the course.
