Description
This course will focus on the long neck saz (bağlama). We will concentrate on different techniques, including the interaction and coordination between finger-picking and using a plectrum (mizrap).
We will learn various hand positions, as well as embellishments characteristic to different regional styles based on motifs taken from traditional compositions from Turkey. We will study Turkish makam, and learn about improvisation (taksim) within this system. We will implement these techniques in the context of the following repertoire:
1. “Başımda Altın Tacım”
2. “Yağcılar Zeybeği”
3. “Giresun Karşılaması”
4. “Παναγούλα” (Panagoula)
5. “Συρτός του Κουτσουρέλη” (Sirtos tou Κoutsoureli)
6. “Καρσιλαμάς Μεγάρων” (Karsilamas Megaron)
7. “Aman Avcı Vurma Beni”
8. “Şu Yüce Dağların Karı Eridi”
This course is for students who are comfortable on saz (bağlama), and can already interpret some pieces from relevant repertoires.
The instructor will send scores and Youtube links of the repertoire one week before the course starts so students can familiarize themselves with the material.
