Description
This course will focus on moving deeper into riqq technique, emphasizing the use of different sounds and patterns. We will devote attention to playing positions, and finding the balance between skin and zills.
Specifically, we will work on different finger roll approaches. We will practice two finger rolls starting from the ring finger, two finger rolls starting from the index finger and one double stroke, all approaches that are also implemented on the darabuka. We will work on finger flexibility so as to improve our ability to play back and forth between the zills and skin. You will learn to produce a fully rounded beat using the different sounds we will study in this course, honed through appropriate drills and exercises. This course is for students who are comfortable on the riqq, able to produce the basic sounds and common Arabic rhythms.
