Description
This course will devote attention to the minute details, movements and balance that give Cretan traditional music its unique idiomatic character, as expressed through the laouto.
This course is for students that are comfortable with the laouto, and have knowledge of some repertoire. We will focus heavily on right hand technique: how to properly hold a pick and recreate the correct sound and rhythmic nuance of the Cretan laouto. This course will familiarize the student with a training regimen meant to strengthen understanding of idiosyncrasies in this music.
The repertoire for this course will include:
Kissamitika syrta: "Inantios," "Kissamitikos," "Karagioules," "b' Karagioules," and "Mesogianos
Syrta by Nikos Xylouris: "San vreis kardia ntelikani," "Min perimeneis ton kero," "Sto proto vima tis zois," "O meraklina kopelia" and "Sto rizoma tou xarakiou"
As well as "Stafidianos skopos," "Protos Haniotikos Syrtos" (versions by Koutsourellis and Markogiannis), and "Maleviziotis" (the version of Lefteris Markodimitrakis "Vourlas").
