Description
This course is for students who attended “From West To Modal Part 1,” and thus have already become acquainted with the basic concepts of modal traditions, such as the modal fragment and modal path. Similarly, they are already familiar with the basic modes and musical forms of those traditions which were presented.
In Part 2, we will expand our discourse to cover more complex modal structures (compound makamlar such as Ferahfeza, Zavil, Şedaraban and more), as well as more extensive analysis of dastgah and raga modal systems. We will focus on compositional forms (peşrev, beste, Ayin - Pishdaramad, Chaharmezrab and more), in order to further discover the subtleties of modal music and challenge ourselves to reproduce elements of the material that we study in both composition and improvisation.
