Description
This course will give close attention to understanding and developing proper technique, including lip and finger positioning, breath control and ornamentation. This course is for students who have basic familiarity with the ney, able to correctly hold the instrument and produce sound. We will play select pieces from the traditional repertoire of Aleppo, Syria, including “Awel 'ashra Mahboubi,” “Qadukka al Mayyas,” “Ya Mal el-Sham,” and “Qudud Halabiye.” Note that a ney in the key of Re (D) is required for this course.
