Description

In this course, we will discuss oud technique, examining various exercises for different makams, which will help us understand the instrument from both a technical and stylistic point of view. We will focus on four basic makams – Rast, Ussak, Hüseyni and Hicaz – exploring them via a core repertoire. Finally, we will practice improvisation (taksim), with the intent of bringing all the above elements together.
 
This course is for students who are able to hold and produce basic sounds on the oud. The repertoire will include:
