Description
This course will focus on the dastgah modal system of Iranian music. It will look specifically at the Segah dastgah. We will explore its structures and building blocks (gushehs), and through playing and analyzing pieces, we will be able to understand the dastgah system better. At the end of the course, we will attempt to compose pieces based on what we've learned and try to improvise in free rhythm. Through the course, we will look at different vocal and instrumental radifs as well.
This course is for students who are comfortable with their instrument, though not necessarily versed in Iranian dastgah.
